ABUJA: Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the likelihood of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar securing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ticket for the 2027 general election, stating that it simply will not happen.
Speaking during a live media session on Wednesday evening in Abuja, Wike asserted that Atiku had presented his blueprint to Nigerians several times, only to be consistently rejected.
Atiku, who was the PDP’s presidential candidate in 2023, had recently claimed that had he won the election, he would have handled things differently from President Bola Tinubu, and Nigerians would not be facing the current level of hardship.
Wike responded, saying, “Did he (Atiku) not present his blueprint before Nigerians? Did Nigerians choose him? He is now lobbying for another chance, but that chance will not come. Which party? How can we continue with one man for so many years?”
He further drew comparisons to the U.S., saying, “Look at America. I’m sure many didn’t support Trump, calling him a racist and so on, but Americans, thinking for the good of their country, made their decision.”
He concluded, “You presented your blueprint in 2023. Nigerians heard you clearly and said, ‘Thank you, but it will not work. We will not support you.’ Criticism does not mean the opposition is working.”
