A report suggests that the manufacturing of Google Pixel smartphones may be shifted from Vietnam to India. Google company Alphabet is alleged to have initiated talks with its manufacturing partners in India to make more Google Pixel handsets in the country. Google’s intentions to increase manufacturing in India over the coming years are anticipated to be accelerated by this. Similar to Apple, the company seems to be making an attempt to lessen the effects of tariffs that US President Donald Trump declared earlier this month on a number of nations, including Vietnam and India.
Foxconn and Dixon are reportedly in talks with Alphabet.
According to a report in The Economic Times that cites two executives, Alphabet held discussions with Foxconn and Dixon early this month in an attempt to shift some of the production of Google Pixel smartphones to India. Additionally, rather than importing parts like the fingerprint scanner, batteries, and chargers, Google reportedly asked its partners to acquire them locally.
The article claims that although Google’s manufacturing partners in India currently create up to 45,000 Google Pixel smartphones each month, the most of these devices are mainly sold in India. Beginning with the Pixel 8, the business began producing its smartphones in India in August 2024.
According to the source, Google was already intending to move the manufacture of the Pixel to India, but it looks like the firm is going to move more quickly with its preparations. Like Apple, Google intends to ship its Pixel smartphones to the United States after domestic production has risen.
US President Donald Trump’s tariffs on China (up to 145 percent), Vietnam (46 percent), India (26 percent), and several other nations prompted the corporation to speak with Dixon and Foxconn. With the exception of China, the US has temporarily suspended these tariffs for a duration of ninety days.
As part of Google’s efforts to lessen the impact of the tariffs on China and Vietnam, it is still unknown how much of the Pixel smartphone will be produced in India. In the future, the cost of smartphones may decrease if the company’s partners obtain components locally.
