Apple’s Foldable iPhone to Use Liquid Metal Materials for Durability.

According to recent claims, Apple is developing a new foldable iPhone, and using a particular material could be advantageous for one of the company’s suppliers. In an effort to compete with the alleged foldable iPhone, smartphones from other companies will also try to incorporate the new material into their devices, according to information provided by Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst with TF Securities International. Apple is expected to release a foldable phone by the end of 2026, but the company has not yet disclosed its plans.

The foldable iPhone from Apple may have hinges made of liquid metal.
Kuo asserts in a post on X (previously Twitter) that the usage of liquid metal on its bearings will help Dongguan Yi’an Technology, an Apple supplier that is anticipated to provide parts for the company’s first foldable iPhone. The material that could be utilised on the essential parts of the foldable device—rumored to be an iPhone—is reportedly only supplied by Yi’an Technology.

The expert claims that in order to increase the folding smartphone’s endurance, Apple will use liquid metal from Yi’an Technology. Additionally, it could be utilised to lessen the visibility of a crease on the inner screen.

By the end of last year, according to Kuo, Yi’an Technology had given Apple more than 10 million shafts, which are used in the hinge of the foldable phone. Die casting is reportedly used by the company to process the new component.

This is not the first time Apple has used a liquid metal component. Kuo claims that the same material is also used in the manufacturing of the company’s SIM ejection tool. However, the Chinese supplier may gain a significant edge if it is used in the foldable iPhone, which is anticipated to be released by the end of 2024.

The materials provided for the foldable iPhone, according to the analyst, might result in a 200 percent rise in Yi’an Technology’s income. Between CNY 1.5 billion (approximately Rs. 1,780 crore) and CNY 2 billion (approximately Rs. 2,370 crore) might be made from it.

Recent rumours suggest that Apple’s foldable iPhone may look like the Oppo Find N, although it will be thicker and shorter. According to reports, it has a 7.74-inch internal display and a 5.49-inch cover display. Next year, the business is anticipated to release its first foldable device, followed by an iPad and a foldable MacBook.
