After months of anticipation, Apple revealed on social media Monday that it is getting ready to release a new MacBook Air M4 this week. As the replacement for the MacBook Air M3, which made its debut only in March 2024, the new generation laptop is anticipated to come with 13-inch and 15-inch variants available. The entry-level laptop from the Cupertino-based tech business is rumoured to enable Apple Intelligence, which is its suite of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.
Confirmed Launch of the MacBook Air M4
Apple CEO Tim Cook posted a teaser video along with the caption, “There’s something in the AIR,” on X (formerly Twitter). This suggests that the next MacBook Air with an M4 chipset will be released soon. It is anticipated that the business will simply update the current generation model with the new processor while keeping the same design.
It has apparently been dubbed J713 and J715 and is expected to launch in two display size options: 13-inch and 15-inch. Although it’s possible that Apple will include its new nano-texture coating, which it offers with the MacBook Pro (M4, 2024), in its entry-level laptop as well, the MacBook Air M4 is anticipated to have the same Liquid Retina display. Additionally, with the future M4 model, the business may convert the current MacBook Air’s Thunderbolt 3 connections to Thunderbolt 4 connectors.
Support for Apple Intelligence is also anticipated. It suggests that Apple will provide at least 8GB of RAM, which is necessary for the iPhone manufacturer to run the AI suite.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg originally reported on the alleged processor upgrade in October 2024, and the same reporter last week disclosed when it will be released. The release of an M4-powered Mac Studio, codenamed J575, is anticipated to follow this launch. It could be introduced in March or June.
Apple’s intentions to update the Mac Pro with a chip from the M4 family are still unknown. However, after the MacBook Air M4 is released, the business might disclose further details.
