Ahead of the Saturday governorship election in Ondo State, Vice President Kashim Shettima, several APC governors, national chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, and party leaders will lead a major rally today in support of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s re-election bid. The rally will take place at the MKO Abiola Democracy Park in Akure, Ondo State, starting at 10 am.
Seventeen political parties, including the ruling APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and others, are participating in the election. Among the parties cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are Accord Party, Action Alliance, Labour Party, and New Nigeria Peoples Party, among others.
As campaigns intensify, a dispute has erupted between the APC and PDP in Ondo over allegations of election rigging. The PDP accused the APC of attempting to manipulate the election by influencing the selection of presiding officers and assistant presiding officers for INEC.
APC spokesman Alex Kalejaiye dismissed the claims as false, affirming that the party had no intention of rigging the election and that the people of Ondo support Governor Aiyedatiwa.
He emphasized that the party had focused on delivering projects and would rely on the people’s support, not illegal practices, to secure victory. The APC will hold a grand rally today to send a message of continuity.
