U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has appointed tech billionaire Elon Musk to lead the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
Musk will be joined by Vivek Ramaswamy in this role. The department’s mission is to dismantle government bureaucracy, reduce excessive regulations, cut wasteful spending, and restructure federal agencies, marking a significant shift in U.S. governance.
Trump, who won the 2024 election against Vice President Kamala Harris, stated that DOGE will collaborate with the White House and the Office of Management and Budget to drive large-scale structural reforms and adopt an entrepreneurial approach to government.
This initiative aims to tackle government waste and inefficiency, with a goal of reducing the federal budget’s $6.5 trillion annual expenditure.
Trump hopes that by July 2026, the U.S. government will be smaller, more efficient, and less bureaucratic, as a tribute to the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
Besides Musk and Ramaswamy, key appointments include Lee Zeldin as EPA Administrator, Mike Waltz as National Security Advisor, and Susie Wiles as White House Chief of Staff
