According to a source, WhatsApp may be working on a UPI Lite feature for users. By allowing them to complete transactions without entering the PIN, it is thought to streamline the payment process. WhatsApp’s in-development functionality, which may be useful for low-value transactions, was discovered during an APK breakdown of a beta version of the program, just like on other platforms. This disclosure coincides with the rumoured creation of a bill paying feature for Indian WhatsApp users.
After an APK dissection of the WhatsApp beta app version 2.25.5.17, Android Authority noticed this feature. There are reportedly other strings in the update’s code that allude to the alleged UPI Lite capabilities. Even when the servers are congested, it might allow for speedy payments. Additionally, consumers might be able to complete transactions successfully with just one click.
Additionally, code strings imply that they might be able to use the instant chat network to add and withdraw money at any time. Setting up UPI Lite, however, will only activate it on that particular device—not on other devices linked to the account. WhatsApp could expand on its current UPI capabilities, which enables users to link their UPI accounts to the chat service in order to make payments, with this alleged addition.
It was previously claimed that WhatsApp was creating new financial features especially for its Indian user base. The option to pay bills within the app is reportedly something that is being worked on. These could include rent payments, water bills, power bills, mobile recharges, piped gas bills and postpaid landline costs.
Notably, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) created UPI Lite, an application that utilises the current UPI ecosystem protocols for mobile devices. Processing low-value transactions with a value of less than Rs. 500 is its goal. The feature, which is connected to the user’s mobile number, enables payment processing even in the absence of a live internet connection.
