A new feature in Gmail called Gemini will make it simpler for users to create events on Google Calendar. The internet giant with headquarters in Mountain View said Monday that it is launching a new button that may be touched to create and save a calendar event. The AI chatbot can automatically recognise emails that contain information about calendar events and use that information to create the event. Notably, last year the business allowed users to ask calendar-based questions by integrating Google Calendar with Gmail’s Gemini tool.
Gmail Adds a New Calendar Button for Gemini
The IT giant described the new Gemini function in a Workspace blog. The business emphasised that qualified users can currently utilise Gemini in Gmail to ask questions and carry out specific Google Calendar operations. However, users will now be able to hit a single button to immediately set up new events.
A screenshot demonstrating the feature was included in the post. According to the graphic, the email interface’s “Summarise this email” button is being replaced with a new “Add to Calendar” button. The subject line is followed by the button.
According to Google, the button will only show up in pertinent emails that mention a calendar event. The AI will recognise it as a calendar event and display the button, for example, if a manager’s email emphasises that the user needs to be present for a meeting at a specific time and day.
The Gemini side-panel opens when the button is pressed, and the AI immediately creates the event and notifies the user that it has been added to Google Calendar. This eliminates the need for the user to manually enter the data and send Gemini a prompt in order to add the event.
Google Workspace Business and Enterprise accounts will be able to use the service. The capability will also be available to Google One AI Premium customers and those who have Gemini Education or the Gemini Education Premium add-on. Nevertheless, neither Google Workspace personal accounts nor Gmail’s free users may access it.
