Okpebholo halts Edo Civil Service hiring

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has ordered the suspension of all recruitment activities into the state’s Civil Service until further notice. The directive also includes a comprehensive review of all appointments made by the previous administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki between May and November 2024.

Key Highlights of the Directive:

  1. Clandestine Recruitment Activities:
    The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Musa Ikhilor, disclosed in a statement that reports revealed irregular employment practices by various Commissions, Boards, Parastatals, and Agencies. These include issuing backdated employment letters without adhering to due process.
  2. Suspension of Employment Processes:
    To address these concerns, the governor has:
    • Halted all recruitment activities across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
    • Ordered a thorough review of appointments made since May 2024.
  3. Commitment to Fairness and Equity:
    Governor Okpebholo emphasized the administration’s dedication to merit-based and competitive hiring practices that ensure equal access for all Edo State indigenes.
  4. Compliance Directive:
    Heads of MDAs are instructed to strictly adhere to the new directive, with the aim of maintaining transparency and accountability in the state’s recruitment processes.
