Former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Abdulmalik Mahmood, commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration and the Nigerian Army for their success in weakening Boko Haram, a terrorist group that has plagued Nigeria, particularly in the North East, for over a decade.
In an interview during the 3rd Annual Conference of the Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria in Abuja, Mahmood highlighted the return of residents and farmers to their livelihoods, a significant shift compared to the insecurity and violence of previous years.
Mahmood acknowledged that while isolated incidents, such as bombings, still occur in areas like Borno State, the situation has improved dramatically compared to the widespread terror that existed five to eight years ago.
He praised the military’s efforts in restoring order and security, particularly in the North East.
This praise follows comments by Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Olotu, Commandant of the National Defence College, who disclosed that Boko Haram’s revenue has sharply declined since 2016 due to ongoing government efforts.
He noted that Boko Haram’s financial strength, which previously relied on criminal activities such as kidnapping, illegal mining, and foreign donations, has been severely impacted.
This reduction in the group’s income has weakened its operational capacity.
