On Wednesday, the Federal Government withdrew the money laundering charges against Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance Holdings Limited senior executive.
Gambaryan, along with Nadeem Anjarwalla, Binance’s British-Kenyan regional manager for Africa, was facing charges of laundering $35 million, brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Both executives had initially been detained by the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA).
Nadeem Anjarwalla escaped custody on March 22, 2024, while Gambaryan was formally arraigned in April and sent to Kuje Correctional Facility.
Gambaryan’s attempts to secure bail on health grounds were twice rejected by Justice Emeka Nwite, who deemed the claims insufficient.
His trial was scheduled for October 18 but was absent due to reported health issues from prison authorities. The trial was then rescheduled for October 25.
However, a hearing held on Wednesday, which had not been previously publicized, resulted in the withdrawal of charges against Gambaryan, effectively halting further legal proceedings.
