Former African Renaissance Party presidential candidate, Alhaji Yahaya Ndu, has strongly criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic policies, labeling them as reckless and harmful to Nigeria’s economy.
In an interview with South-East PUNCH, Ndu expressed concern that Tinubu’s leadership has worsened the economic struggles of Nigerians, pushing many into deeper poverty. He further described the president’s governance style as a “civilian dictatorship.”
Ndu argued that democracy should be more than just electing leaders; it should involve active participation from all citizens.
He described the move as authoritarian, implemented before the formation of a cabinet and without proper consultation. Instead of removing subsidies, Ndu proposed that the government should have supported small-scale local refiners, helping them produce fuel more efficiently.
Drawing a comparison, Ndu questioned Nigeria’s high fuel prices, contrasting them with Libya’s reported sale of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at ₦52 per litre. He criticized the economic logic behind Nigeria’s soaring fuel prices.
In conclusion, Ndu called for a governance model that includes mass participation from professionals across various sectors to tackle Nigeria’s challenges. He advocated for an inclusive approach, emphasizing that no individual or group has a monopoly on the knowledge needed to solve the country’s problems.
