For a while now, there have been rumours that Apple is working on a smart home hub. According to an experienced journalist, the company’s newest smart home product, which was supposed to launch sometime in March, is now facing a postponement. This is ascribed to the difficulties the Cupertino-based tech behemoth has encountered in creating a more sophisticated version of Siri, whose functionality the alleged smart home appliance may mostly rely on.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg provided this information. The journalist pointed out in the most recent Power On email that Apple’s original plans to unveil its new smart home hub in March are now in doubt. According to reports, the company’s ability to produce the enhanced Siri that the alleged device would use will have a significant impact on when it launches.
The iPhone manufacturer is said to have started an internal home testing program in advance of its launch, enabling a few chosen staff members to try the gadget at home and offer input. It might be “Apple’s most significant release of the year,” according to Gurman, who also said that it would be the “first step towards a bigger role in the smart home.”
Anticipated Features
Although there are few specifics, previous sources indicate that the alleged smart home hub has been dubbed J490. It might also have a touchscreen and a square screen. Its screen is rumoured to offer a configurable lock user interface with numerous clock faces, much like the Apple TV interface. According to reports, there may be hand gesture recognition as a control method and video conferencing features that make use of an integrated camera.
User identification is another alleged function of the alleged smart home hub. It might enable voice commands for consumers to make private requests, much like the current HomePod. It might also be able to play media and function as an AirPlay receiver.
Thanks to the iPhone manufacturer’s Apple Intelligence suite, it is anticipated that upon its release, it will be the first Apple smart home appliance with AI capabilities. It may support the company’s sophisticated Siri, which is reportedly one of the reasons for its delayed arrival. It is rumoured to be powered by the same A18 SoC as the iPhone 16 models.
