According to reports, Android 16 is being developed as the upcoming version of Google’s smartphone operating system (OS). The Android 16 upgrade may include new features for external display management, according to a recent report, ahead of its planned summer distribution. It is rumoured to allow users to reorganise external screens and facilitate the transition between mirroring and extending the screen on the display.
Android 16’s External Display Management Tools
Android Authority is the source of this information. Google’s testing of new external display control features in Android 16 may make the experience more similar to other desktop operating systems, according to a report by Mishaal Rahman of the newspaper. According to the source, Google is implementing mouse cursor transitions, which allow users to change the cursor when interacting with different screens.
Additionally, it has been suggested that the tech giant may add a dedicated option to allow users to choose between mirroring and extending the built-in screen. This is supposed to improve ease by doing away with the necessity of adjusting the developer settings on the phone and then reconnecting it in order to switch the display mode. The article linked a Google Pixel 8 Pro to the NexDock XL and explored the Android phone’s External Display settings to make the previously described features function.
According to the article, Google may also be working on a method to regulate the external display’s refresh rate. Options to resize a window to fit the edge of the screen and change the external display’s text and icon sizes independently might also be included.
The magazine was able to activate these capabilities in the Android 16 Beta 2.1 version that was made available last month, even though they aren’t yet live. The update included improvements for critical problems that affected the device’s performance, such as connectivity, system stability, and performance, in addition to the previously listed features. According to a corporate representative, the stable version of Android 16 is expected to be made available to qualified Google Pixel handsets in June 2025.
