Apple this week unveiled the iPhone 16e, the newest entry-level iPhone model and the replacement for the iPhone SE (2022). A fresh source claims that the phone, which will join other devices in the Cupertino-based tech company’s iPhone 16 series, is now being assembled in India in preparation for its February 28 launch. According to reports, the iPhone 16e is being put together for both domestic and international sales.
India-based assembly of the iPhone 16e
In response to a question, Apple stated that “the entire iPhone 16 lineup, including iPhone 16e, is being assembled in India for Indian consumers and for export to select countries,” according to the Economic Times. This action makes the phone the most recent iPhone model to be built in India.
The company’s flagship iPhone 16 Pro models, whose manufacturing was initially outsourced to India, marked a significant milestone. The “Pro” phones were formerly put together in China by Taiwanese partners Foxconn, Pegatron, and Wistron. The business eventually introduced “assembled in India” variants to shop shelves, however the original iPhone 16 Pro units still bore the “assembled in China” branding.
The iPhone 14, iPhone 15, and the full iPhone 16 lineup are among the notable iPhone models that Apple already assembles in India.
According to reports, the iPhone manufacturer’s emphasis on manufacturing in India is consistent with its intentions to diversify the iPhone production process by setting up production facilities outside of China, a market whose excessive reliance resulted in a shortage of the iPhone 14 Pro models at launch because of COVID-19 restrictions at the Foxconn facility in Zhengzhou. The iPhone 15 Pro models also experienced shortages, but this time they were brought on by supply-chain issues and increased demand.
