This summer’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 is anticipated to feature the rumoured next version of Apple’s iPhone operating system (OS), iOS 19. Apple Intelligence, the company’s artificial intelligence (AI) suite, which was introduced at WWDC 2024 and released to iPhone models in September with iOS 18, is probably going to play a significant role in the update. According to a recent report, iOS 19 might only extend Apple Intelligence to support additional apps rather than introducing any new features.
iOS 19 Will Increase Apple’s Intelligence Potential
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said in the most recent issue of his Power On newsletter that it is doubtful that Apple would reveal any new AI capabilities at its upcoming WWDC 2025. The Cupertino-based tech behemoth will instead concentrate on adding new apps to the current capabilities.
With iOS 18.1 and later versions, a number of Apple Intelligence capabilities have been added to the iPhone; nevertheless, one important function has not yet been released. Apple unveiled a more sophisticated Siri at WWDC 2024 that would be able to access a user’s personal information and see what’s on their screen to deliver contextual and tailored responses to questions. The feature was supposed to be delivered in April with the iOS 18.4 update, but the company has not disclosed a specific timetable for its deployment. It has been stated that these plans have been postponed for the foreseeable future.
“It’s going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year,” a business official named Jacqueline Roy reportedly told Daring Fireball.
Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, and other officials reportedly expressed serious internal reservations about the Apple Intelligence features, which further exacerbated the chaos in the company’s AI group. They underlined that the features didn’t function well or as promised, citing their own testing. Gurman implies that Apple employees “think that work on the features could be scrapped altogether” and that they might need to be created “from scratch” once more, which could be a sign of further delays. According to the article, they aren’t anticipated to be available until at least next year.
