Google official is reported to have disclosed the Android 16 launch.

According to a report, the next major operating system (OS) upgrade for Android devices, Android 16, will be out in June. This information was allegedly disclosed to a publication by a company representative during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona. Notably, Google has a history of releasing the upcoming Android OS updates around August; nevertheless, it may release Android 16 earlier than expected in June.

Release Schedule for Android 16
Google’s President of Android Ecosystem, Sameer Samat, told Android Police at MWC 2025 that Android 16 and other Android OS updates are expected to be released early this year. The official emphasised that Google has implemented Trunk Stable development, citing difficulties within the Android development team.

One notable aspect of this software branching approach is that designers usually make minor adjustments to the code of the program, which are directly linked to a single shared branch. Compared to traditional feature-based development, it is said to expedite the merging and integration stages of the software development process, which could hasten the project’s release.

“Trunk Stable development means that everyone working on Android is contributing to the same branch of code,” the article cited a Google official as saying.

The update is reportedly on track for a June 2025 release, even though Google has just released the second developer beta of Android 16 thus far.

According to earlier rumours, Android 16 is expected to be transferred to the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) on June 3. After that, developers will have the opportunity to design device-specific OS variations and convert them for distribution. It supports the previously disclosed timeframe that indicated its first availability on Google Pixel devices would occur in the second quarter of this year.

The recent release of the Android 16 Beta 2.1 upgrade to developers and beta testers is the foundation for this work. This version fixed important problems that affected the device’s functionality, such as connectivity, system stability, and performance, even though it didn’t include any new features.
