Actress and producer Ufuoma McDermott has opened up about her challenging 12-year journey with chronic kidney disease, highlighting the severe repercussions of unmanaged chronic pain and the overuse of medication. In a conversation with Chude Jideonwo, she reflected on how the loss of her younger brother to kidney disease contributed to her own health issues.
Initially diagnosed with Stage 3 kidney disease, McDermott’s condition worsened to Stage 4 due to delays in receiving proper treatment. She revealed that years of taking excessive painkillers played a significant role in the deterioration of her health.
McDermott shared, “I had pushed my body and I was borderline stage 4. Last year was a very trying time in my life where I thought I was gonna die.
