Timaya discloses why he likes Portable.

Nigerian singer Timaya recently shared a humorous reflection on his admiration for the controversial artist Portable, revealing how Portable’s rebellious nature reminds him of his own wild past.

In an interview with Channels Television, Timaya recalled the first time he heard Portable’s hit song “Zazu Zeh” and how he immediately saw a resemblance between their personalities.

Timaya mentioned that during a trip to Delta State, he told fellow artist 2face, “Have you heard that guy Portable? Zazu Zeh. That guy is just like me because I was a crazy guy.”

He explained that Portable’s unpredictable behavior resonated with his early career days when he was known for being wild and fiery.

Reflecting on how younger audiences, particularly Gen Z, might not fully appreciate his past, Timaya said, “These Gen Z’s don’t know. They see me now and say, ‘Timaya minds his business,’ but I was really crazy, hot like fire back then. There’s growth now, but at the time, it was a strategy for me.”

Timaya also addressed a longstanding rumor about his supposed clashes with military personnel, clarifying that it was entirely false. He emphasized, “The story about me having a negative encounter with military men is untrue. In whatever you do, you must apply wisdom or sense.”

Despite his wild past, Timaya highlighted that there was always a strategic mindset behind his actions, which helped him stand out in the music industry, especially at a time when most of his peers focused on love songs. His unique style, influenced by his Niger Delta background, played a significant role in his rise to fame.
