Qualcomm May Announce Snapdragon X Series Chipsets in September
The next Snapdragon X series chipsets may debut at IFA 2024 in Berlin.
According to a rumor, Qualcomm may launch Snapdragon X chipsets next month. The only consumer laptop chipset that matches Copilot+ PC standards is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X series CPUs, released in April. Microsoft certifies laptops with at least 40 TOPS as Copilot+ PCs due to the chipset’s specialized Hexagon neural processing unit (NPU), which can handle 45 trillion operations per second (TOPS). It is unclear whether the new X series chips would outperform the company’s current CPUs in NPU.
Snapdragon X Series Chipsets May Debut Next Month
Qualcomm launched the 5G-enabled Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 mobile platform and demonstrated its X series chipsets at Snapdragon India this week. Qualcomm Senior Vice President and General Manager, Compute and Gaming, Kedar Kondap, hinted about new X series chipsets in September during the event.
Kondap may be referring to the Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) 2024 consumer electronics trade expo in Berlin, according to FoneArena. The chipmaker may release new Snapdragon X Plus and X Elite models. The article suggests that although new chip models are improbable, new CPU SKUs may be introduced.
Snapdragon X Elite has three SKUs: X1E-78-100, X1E-80-100, and X1E-84-100. Each chip has slight performance and efficiency changes and varies in price. The Berlin show may unveil new Elite and Plus SKUs, according to rumors.
In addition, the company’s annual event in October should unveil the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 mobile platform. Qualcomm said the chipset will employ its Oryon CPU and NPU. The chipset may boost Adreno 750 GPU power efficiency but just CPU performance by a single digit, according to an earlier report.
