Spotify Brings Back Expanded Lyrics for Free Users with a Monthly Limit
They claim their free subscription limit for lyrics is “higher than anyone would ever reach” per month.
Spotify is bringing back a popular feature months after it was locked behind a paywall and removed from the free tier, according to the firm. After tremendous outcry, users without a membership may now access lyrics, although a monthly restriction applies. The news comes weeks after the business announced plans for a “deluxe” membership tier with high-fidelity audio streaming.
Spotify Lyrics return to free
Spotify stated in September 2023 that it will restrict lyrics for free users, prompting concerns on community forums and social media in May. After this update, free users who exceeded three songs needed Spotify Premium to access lyrics.
A Spotify spokeswoman informed TechCrunch that non-premium customers would see lyrics again. “Over the coming weeks, we’ll be expanding lyrics availability for Spotify free users so more people can enjoy more lyrics globally”, the spokesman stated.
However, Spotify will not provide infinite lyrics without a paid membership. An employee told 9to5Google that the level is “higher than anyone would ever reach”. The adjustments may be implemented on the platform in the next weeks.
In its second-quarter 2024 earnings conference, the music streaming service reported 626 million active monthly listeners, of whom 246 million are paying members. Spotify has almost half its users on the free tier.
In recent months, the corporation raised prices. All US Spotify Premium memberships increased in June for the second time in 12 months, with the Individual plan rising to $11.99 (Rs. 1,003) from $10.99.
