OCP boosts fertilizer production with $43.1m

OCP Africa Boosts Nigeria’s Agricultural Sector with $43.1 Million Investment in Fertilizer Blending Facilities

OCP Africa, a leading advocate for sustainable agriculture, has strengthened Nigeria’s fertilizer production through a transformative $43.1 million investment in blending facilities. This initiative aligns with the organization’s mission to enhance food security and agricultural productivity across Africa.

Speaking at the 2024 Food and Energy Security in Africa Conference in Lagos, hosted by White & Case LLP in collaboration with the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), AFREXIM, and the African Finance Corporation (AFC), OCP Africa-Nigeria Country Manager, Engr. Oluwatoba Clement Asana, highlighted the company’s strategic efforts.

The investment focuses on developing fertilizer blending facilities in Ogun, Kaduna, and Sokoto states, which collectively add over 500,000 metric tons per year to Nigeria’s fertilizer production capacity. These facilities are designed to provide high-quality, locally produced fertilizers tailored to meet the unique soil and crop needs across Nigeria’s diverse agricultural zones.

“These facilities are a cornerstone of our commitment to boosting agricultural productivity in Nigeria,” Engr. Asana stated. “By increasing local production, we are reducing reliance on imports, stabilizing prices, and ensuring farmers have consistent access to essential inputs.”

Beyond infrastructure, OCP Africa has introduced initiatives like “School Labs,” which offer mobile soil testing, customized fertilizer recommendations, and farmer training programs. These efforts aim to empower farmers with innovative tools and knowledge to improve yields sustainably.
