Ogbomoso set to become cashew hub as agropreneur aims for three million trees

In a bid to promote sustainable agriculture and economic empowerment, Tobiloba Olagbende, CEO of Witford Nigeria Limited, has unveiled an ambitious initiative to plant 3 million cashew trees in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, over the next five years.

Led by Witford Agro Services, this program focuses on training and equipping local youth and women with modern cultivation techniques, providing the necessary resources to make cashew farming a lucrative venture.

The initiative, which began in April, kicked off with a series of training sessions to equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed before the planting season in September.

Olagbende emphasized that the project aims to educate underserved communities about the profitability of cashew farming, offering them advanced cultivation techniques to achieve abundant harvests. Participants will receive cashew seedlings and bedding materials to support their new endeavors.

“Our goal is to empower 100,000 youth and women in Ogbomoso with the skills and resources to cultivate cashew as a viable cash crop,” he stated.

“This will uplift families by creating a source of income and position Oyo State as a major producer and exporter of high-quality cashew nuts.”

Since its establishment in 2016, Witford Nigeria Limited has played a crucial role in the cashew planting sector, focusing on advancing sustainable agriculture in Oyo State and ensuring that the initiative’s benefits reach those in need.

Olagbende noted that the new initiative naturally extends the company’s long-term commitment to the community.

“I was inspired to pursue this project by witnessing the untapped potential of Ogbomoso’s fertile lands and the eagerness of its people to learn and grow,” he shared. “Cashew farming presents an opportunity to transform lives, and with proper training and support, these farmers can produce cashew that meets international standards, establishing Oyo State as a hub for cashew exports in Nigeria.”
