The Super Eagles of Nigeria have climbed three spots to rank 36th in the October FIFA ranking. As of Thursday, Nigeria has accumulated 1503.29 points during the review period.
This improvement follows their victory over Libya in the first leg of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on October 11 in Uyo, where they won by a single goal.
The recent ranking also enhances Nigeria’s continental position, moving them to fourth place in Africa, surpassing their previous sixth spot in September. They now trail behind Morocco, Senegal, and Egypt.
October was a particularly busy month for international football, with 32 FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers, 47 CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualifiers, 79 Nations League matches, and 17 friendlies played. This activity has contributed to several changes in the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking.
In the top three global rankings, Argentina retains the 1st position, with France in 2nd and Spain in 3rd; however, the gap between them has narrowed. England holds the 4th spot, followed by Brazil and Belgium in 5th and 6th, respectively. Portugal (7th, up 1) and Italy (9th, up 1) have seen slight improvements, while Netherlands (8th, down 1) and Colombia (10th, down 1) have dropped. Germany is now 11th, gaining two spots.
Notable movements among other teams include Algeria (37th, up 4), Peru (38th, up 5), and Greece (42nd, up 6). Cameroon has also made a return to the top 50 at 49th (up 4).
Significant progress was made by Equatorial Guinea (88th, up 6), Zimbabwe (117th, up 7), The Gambia (128th, up 7), and Botswana (140th, up 7), with Botswana achieving the largest increase in points gained (up 38.30 points).
