Akwa Ibom takes steps to reduce youth unemployment

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has announced plans to establish a State Inter-Labour Committee to support the objectives of the newly launched ARISE Youth Employment Portal.

This initiative aims to ensure that all companies operating within the state prioritize hiring local talent and maintain transparent employment practices.

During the launch of the ARISE Youth Employment Portal at the Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort in Uyo, Eno emphasized that the portal fulfils a commitment made during his charter signing with Akwa Ibom youths months earlier.

Describing the portal as a comprehensive platform for employment-related matters, Eno encouraged both the civil service and private sector to utilize it effectively by showcasing job opportunities for the youth.

“Providing gainful employment opportunities for our teeming youths was one of the major themes of my campaign,” he stated. “This aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal on poverty reduction.”

In a previous engagement rally held to honor the youth, Eno reiterated his promise to create the Employment Portal, designed to facilitate job opportunities tailored to various skill sets.

He also mentioned plans for several empowerment schemes to appreciate the youth for their support and participation in his leadership vision.

With the launch of the ARISE Youth Employment Portal, Eno aims to identify and promote employment opportunities for the youth in Akwa Ibom State.
