Bloody Trailer for Shelley Duvall’s Final Film, Forest Hills

October brings the independent Bloody Trailer starring Shelley Duvall’s last performance to theatres and streaming.

Film enthusiasts grieved 75-year-old Shelley Duvall’s passing this summer. Famous for The Shining, Time Bandits, and other films, she started to remove herself from performing in the early 2000s until quitting following the 2002 indie film Manna from Heaven. We were shocked when she returned to the screen in 2022 for her last performance.

The Forest Hills’ first trailer leaked ahead of its early October release. Chiko Mendez portrays Rico, a Catskill mountain camper who suffers a brain injury and has strange, disturbing images he can’t shake. Rico’s buddy Billy (Edward Furlong) convinces him he may be evolving into a werewolf, and he may not be alone. Rico must also face his history, particularly his tense connection with his mother, portrayed by Duvall.

Duvall was originally planned for a brief flashback appearance like Pamela Voorhees in Friday the 13th. But writer/director Scott Goldberg says she talked about working with other actors on camera, so her role was expanded. “Being able to finally work with Shelley and be there in person, and actually film with her — she’s kind, sweet, gentle, and such an amazing actress,” he said. “Shelley was an amazing actress to work with, and I will always be grateful to direct her.”

The Forest Hills opens in select theatres on October 4 and streams on October 8.
