Nigerian singer Eldee The Don has shared insights into his father’s groundbreaking contributions to Nigeria’s technological development, revealing that he played a key role in bringing the internet to the country.
During an appearance on the Adesope Live show, Eldee disclosed that his father pioneered Nigeria’s internet connectivity and established the first cyber cafe in Lagos. His father also provided internet services to major entities, including oil companies like Mobil and government institutions such as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Eldee highlighted how his father’s achievements shaped his own journey, particularly by granting him early access to cutting-edge technology.
“Thankfully, I had a dad who was in technology. My dad was a pioneer in his own space as well,” Eldee said. “That man [my dad] was the first person to connect Nigeria to the internet. This is something people argue about because they don’t know his name. He wasn’t that guy who wanted to put himself out there.”
Eldee further emphasized the significance of his father’s influence: “The very first cyber cafe in Lagos was set up by my dad. The very first connection for Mobil, CBN, and government agencies, my dad was doing all of that. At that time, we had access to technology that wasn’t really available. So having all of that, I had a studio in our house where the music is being produced.”
