The Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria (IPAC) convened a crucial seminar in Calabar, Cross River State, to explore strategies for increasing women’s involvement in politics.
The one-day event, aimed at male leaders of political parties, gathered chairmen, stakeholders, and leaders from states including Kwara, Cross River, Ekiti, Ebonyi, Borno, and Kaduna.
The seminar focused on inspiring support for women’s political leadership and discussing how parties can implement the charter of demands ahead of the 2027 general election. Cross River State IPAC Chairman, Engr. Edet Effiom Okon, reaffirmed IPAC’s commitment to advancing women’s leadership, emphasizing collaboration with the state government to actively involve women, starting from the grassroots. He called for men to support their wives and ensure women have equal opportunities to compete for elective offices.
IPAC’s Akwa Ibom State Chairman, Blessing Umoren, underscored the importance of women’s political participation, describing it as a matter of justice and essential for sustainable development, peace, and security. She highlighted that women’s involvement brings a unique perspective that considers the needs of all societal members.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman for Cross River State, Ogar Alphonsus Eba Esq., voiced support for women’s inclusion, stating that the party had taken steps to promote women’s political participation.
The seminar included presentations from experts on women’s political involvement, allowing participants to share experiences and challenges. It was attended by political party chairmen, women’s rights activists, community leaders, and media practitioners, all united in their commitment to advancing women’s leadership in Nigerian politics.
