A tragic fire outbreak in Ilorin, Kwara State, claimed the life of a 41-year-old man and destroyed five rooms in a residential building. The incident occurred at 2:00 a.m. on Monday at No. 158, Ile Alaparun, Alore area, within a 35-room dwelling.
According to the Kwara State Fire Service, an explosion in a room storing flammable materials caused the fire.
Hassan Adekunle, the fire service spokesperson, reported that preliminary investigations indicated that spontaneous ignition occurred in a room containing combustible substances such as petrol, batteries, and a tire inflator engine.
Firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading to other areas and saving 30 rooms. Unfortunately, five rooms were destroyed.
The fire tragically claimed the life of AbdulFatai, a 41-year-old man from Ile Alate, Abayawo, who had been visiting a friend.
Unable to escape due to the thick smoke, he lost consciousness. After the operation, his body was handed over to his family.
The fire service emphasized the need for strict safety measures to prevent such hazards, urging the proper storage of flammable substances.
