The Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool at Goodison Park has been postponed due to severe weather caused by Storm Darragh. An amber weather warning for strong winds in Merseyside led to the decision, made in consultation with Merseyside Police and Liverpool City Council.
Everton announced the postponement on safety grounds, emphasizing the priority of protecting fans, staff, and players.
The postponement comes as Liverpool leads the Premier League by seven points over Chelsea and Arsenal, both of whom play on Sunday. Everton sits 15th in the standings, five points above the relegation zone.
Storm Darragh has caused widespread disruption, with winds reaching 90 mph in some areas.
In addition to sporting cancellations, tens of thousands of homes in south Wales and western England are without power, with the Met Office issuing red weather warnings for western and southern Wales. Authorities have advised millions to stay indoors for safety.
