Manchester United has announced the appointment of Ruben Amorim as the new manager for their men’s first team, following the departure of Erik ten Hag last month.
Amorim, who currently manages Sporting CP, will join United after the November international break, having finalized a contract that runs through June 2027 with an option for an additional year.
To secure Amorim’s services, United activated his €10 million (£8.4 million) release clause and provided €1 million (£840,000) in compensation to waive Sporting’s 30-day notice period.
Until November 11, Ruud van Nistelrooy will serve as interim manager.
The club’s official statement praised Amorim, calling him “one of the most promising young managers in European football.”
Amorim has made a significant mark at Sporting CP, notably leading them to two Primeira Liga titles, including their first championship in 19 years.
His tactical acumen and success in Portugal have heightened his reputation as an emerging talent in football management, and United fans will look forward to seeing his impact at Old Trafford.
