The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has started supplying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, directly to some oil marketers, bypassing the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
This development allows oil marketers to purchase petrol from the refinery on a willing-buyer, willing-seller basis, providing an alternative to relying solely on imported fuel.
According to a senior official from the refinery, oil marketers can now approach the refinery directly for business transactions, and several have already begun lifting PMS from the plant.
The official emphasized that these direct transactions eliminate the need for third-party intermediaries.
This shift comes as Nigeria anticipates a significant influx of imported PMS, with approximately 123.4 million litres of the product expected to arrive at seaports shortly.
Several vessels carrying the fuel already docked between October 18 and October 20, reinforcing the country’s fuel supply.
Although the exact pricing at the refinery was not disclosed, the official stated that oil marketers would only engage in direct sales if the price remained competitive.
