Dangote Addresses NNPC Allegations, Clarifies Refinery Fuel Price.
The refinery called NNPC Limited’s claim that it is purchasing fuel from them for N898 per litre “misleading and mischievous.”
Anthony Chiejina, Dangote’s spokesman, said the NNPC’s remark weakened the 50-year effort to address electricity shortages and insecurity.
This followed Premium Times’ Sunday revelation that the NNPC purchased petrol from Dangote refinery for N898. Sunday saw NNPC, the lone customer, load petroleum from the refinery.
Chiejina claimed President Bola Tinubu’s committee hasn’t addressed refinery fuel price. He said:
We received an allegation from NNPCL spokesman Olufemi Soneye that we sold our PMS for N898 per litre.
“This remark is false and dishonest, purposely undercutting the achievement accomplishment accomplished today, September 15, 2024, towards eliminating energy inadequacy and instability, which has plagued the economy for 50 years.”
The group advised Nigerians to ignore the harmful statement and wait for the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, to announce the pricing on October 1, 2024. This is because the current crude stock was purchased in dollars.
It added:
We sold NNPCL items in dollars, saving them a lot above what they were importing. This will provide fuel in every local government area, no matter how distant.
“We assure Nigerians of the availability of quality petroleum products and putting an end to the endemic fuel shortage in the country.”
