Apple Watch Series 10 to Have Larger Screen; SE Model May Have Plastic Body: Mark Gurman

Apple may be developing a cheaper smartwatch to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Watch FE.

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple Watch Series 10 may have a bigger display than its current model. The smartwatch, which will replace the Series 9 model released in 2023, may not include the magnetic watch strap mechanism. Apple may release a plastic-bodied Apple Watch SE to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy Watch FE.

Apple Watch Series 10 to Have Bigger Screen, Faster Processor

Gurman said in his weekly Power On newsletter that the Series will have a larger screen than the Series 9. One of the two sizes, N217 or N218, will have a bigger display.

Apple’s biggest wristwatch, the Apple Watch Ultra 2, has a 1.92-inch touchscreen and comes in 49mm. The Series may have a 2-inch screen, according to leaked CAD renderings.

Gurman said the Apple Watch Series will have the same CPU as the third-generation Apple Watch Ultra. He said the new processor will “lay the groundwork” for AI-powered wristwatch functions “down the road”. “Apple Intelligence” features are unlikely to appear soon.

Series 10 Apple Watch Health Features

Gurman believes Apple met “some serious snags” in sleep apnea detection and blood pressure monitoring, so they are unlikely to appear with the Apple Watch Series 10. Since the sleep apnea feature is linked to the blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) monitoring feature that was deactivated owing to a prohibition, Apple’s US support is uncertain.

In testing, the hypertension detection capability was less reliable than the business wanted, so it may not be on the gadget when it launches later this year. Gurman suggests that the corporation “postpone the release beyond this year” and display blood pressure patterns instead of precise values.
