Rodri hopes to return to Man City this season

Manchester City midfielder Rodri is optimistic about returning to action before the end of the season, despite suffering a significant injury.

The Spanish international ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during City’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in September—a setback that manager Pep Guardiola initially stated would likely keep him sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Rodri shared his determination to make a comeback, targeting a recovery period of six to seven months.

“My target is to come back this season,” he said. “I don’t give up on this season, [but] I don’t want to make any mistakes. I am doing much better than I thought.”

City have struggled in Rodri’s absence, going winless in their last six matches across all competitions. While his initial recovery was challenging—characterized by significant pain and difficulty walking—Rodri now reports steady progress and a positive mindset.

The Premier League season concludes on 25 May, with the FA Cup final on 17 May and the Club World Cup following shortly after, running from 15 June to 13 July in the United States. Rodri hopes to play a part in these critical fixtures if his recovery progresses as planned.
