The Defence Headquarters reported that Boko Haram killed three Operation Hadin Kai soldiers on Monday during an attack in Kukawa Local Government Area, Borno State.
On Tuesday, the acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede, praised the troops for their resilience and urged them to sustain their momentum while honoring their fallen comrades.
The statement detailed how the troops recovered numerous items from terrorists who attacked members of the 101 Special Forces Battalion. Early on November 25, 2024, terrorists riding gun trucks and motorcycles launched an assault on the battalion in Kukawa Town during Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK). They used a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) from the Gudumbali axis to breach the camp.
The troops responded decisively and engaged the terrorists with overwhelming firepower, supported by the Air Component and the Nigerian Army’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Command. They killed 12 terrorists and forced many others to flee with injuries. The soldiers seized 5 AK-47 rifles, 1 RPG bomb, 1 RPG tube, 2 anti-aircraft guns, 1 QJC gun, 1 NSV heavy machine gun, 40 motorcycles, 152 Shilka rounds, and other materials. They also destroyed four out of seven VBIEDs.
Unfortunately, the attack claimed the lives of three soldiers. The troops continue house-to-house searches to secure the area fully.
Operation HADIN KAI reiterated its commitment to defeating terrorism in the Northeast and advancing socio-economic growth in the region.
