Kano allocates N100m for law reforms

In 2025, the Kano State Law Reform Commission would spend N100m on law improvements.

Justice Lawal Muhammadu, the commission’s chairman, revealed this after defending its 2025 budget before the state House of Assembly Judiciary Committee.

He says several state laws need change, a project that began earlier this year but was damaged and burned during the August demonstration.

He stated the entire process is starting over with a N100 million budget to revise all laws next year.

Many laws are old; some were written before Nigeria’s independence and are based on England law from 1837. We keep some that aren’t used in the country.

“We want to review those. Non-useful ones will be removed, and those that need reform will be reformed, he said.

Kano State Radio Corporation, Ministry of Information, Kano Pillars Club, Abubakar Rimi Television, Triumph newspaper, Kano Printing Press, Kano Film and Censorship Board, and others defended their budgets.

They recommitted to using budgeted resources to improve outputs.
