Leicester City have parted ways with manager Steve Cooper after a challenging start to the Premier League season, with the club currently sitting 16th after 12 matches. The decision follows a 2-1 loss to Chelsea, managed by former Leicester boss Enzo Maresca, which left the Foxes just two points above the relegation zone.
Cooper, who took over in the summer following Maresca’s promotion-winning season, had hoped to stabilize the team in the Premier League. In the wake of the defeat, a club statement confirmed that first-team coach Ben Dawson, along with Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes, will temporarily lead the squad as Leicester begins its search for a new manager.
Assistant manager Alan Tate and first-team coach Steve Rands have also left the club, with Leicester’s next match against Brentford scheduled for Saturday, November 30.
The loss to Chelsea was Leicester’s sixth in the league this season. After the match, Cooper pointed to the referee’s performance as a factor in the defeat, acknowledging the difficulty of returning to the Premier League but remaining optimistic that the team could perform better and start getting results.
Cooper’s sacking makes him the second manager to be let go this season in the Premier League, following Erik ten Hag’s departure from Manchester United in October.
