First City Monument Bank (FCMB) has partnered with EStars to bring esports education to Nigerian schools, aiming to equip young Nigerians with essential digital skills.
The initiative targets students aged 7 to 14 in primary and secondary schools, introducing them to teamwork, communication, and problem-solving through gaming—skills that are vital in today’s digital world but often overlooked in traditional education.
Launched in July 2024, the EStars educational esports platform provides a fun and structured approach to learning, helping students develop important life skills while enjoying gaming.
The platform includes tools for tournament management, team collaboration, and integrating esports into school curricula, alongside coaching materials for skill development. Students also gain insight into potential career paths within the expanding esports industry.
Esports has become a popular extracurricular activity in schools, with some institutions even incorporating it into their curriculum to promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning. Games like Minecraft are used to teach coding, further enhancing students’ skills.
Mrs. Yemisi Edun, FCMB’s Managing Director, emphasized the importance of the partnership, noting that it provides an innovative way for schools to cultivate a love for learning. She also stated, “At FCMB, we believe in equipping the next generation with the skills they need to thrive in the age of AI and automation.”
EStars’ founder, Mags Byrne, echoed these sentiments, expressing the company’s mission to empower young minds for both the esports industry and beyond. The partnership aims to bridge the gap between traditional education and esports, offering students valuable skills and career opportunities in this growing sector.
