The University of Benin (UNIBEN), Edo State, is celebrating the graduation of 385 first-class students across two academic sessions: 206 in 2021/2022 and 179 in 2022/2023.
This achievement will be recognized during the university’s 49th/50th convocation ceremonies, scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
Prof. Salami highlighted the efforts of the university’s management, staff, and students that contributed to this milestone. She commended their dedication, sacrifices, and commitment to achieving academic excellence.
The convocation ceremonies will include several events:
- Thursday, 21st November: An interfaith service followed by the Founders’ Day lecture, delivered by former Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, on the theme: “The Poor also Deserve Education: Our Founding Heroes’ Legacies in Educational Equity and Equality.”
- Friday, 22nd November: The award of first degrees and prizes starting at 10 a.m.
- Saturday, 23rd November: The award of Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters, and PhDs, and the conferring of Honorary Doctorate Degrees and Professors Emeriti titles on selected individuals.
The Honorary Doctorate Degrees will be awarded to three distinguished personalities:
- Chief Leemon Ikpea (oil, gas, and construction magnate)
- Dr. Kingsley Momodu (renowned dentist)
- Mrs. Veronica Igbe (foremost entrepreneur)
Additionally, seven distinguished professors from UNIBEN will be honored with the Professors Emeriti title, including Nosakhare Eghafona, Felix Okeimen, Patrick Igbinovia, Ikponmwosa Owie, Augustine Obasohan, Friday Okonofua, and V.J. Ikhatua.
The upcoming convocation marks a significant moment in the university’s history, celebrating academic excellence and the contributions of key individuals to education and society.
