Tinubu calls Ondo election calm

President Bola Tinubu has called on political stakeholders and voters to maintain peace and fulfill their civic duties ahead of the upcoming Ondo State governorship election.

The election is set to take place on Saturday, November 16, 2024, across all 18 Local Government Areas of the state. In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu emphasized the need for a democratic process that truly reflects the will of the people and their right to freely choose their leaders.

“As Ondo State approaches its off-cycle governorship election, the President urges all political stakeholders and the electorate to uphold peace, decorum, and perform their civic duties without fear before, during, and after the elections,” the statement read.

Tinubu commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its diligent preparations, particularly the prompt distribution of sensitive materials across the state. He also acknowledged the deployment of security forces to ensure a peaceful election, appreciating assurances from the Inspector-General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff that security personnel would act professionally, in line with the Electoral Act.

He stressed the importance of safeguarding Nigeria’s democratic values, urging all parties to work toward a free, fair, and credible election to further strengthen over 25 years of uninterrupted democratic governance.
