Jaywon recently addressed his strained relationship with Mavin Records star Ayra Starr, explaining how a viral photo led to online mockery.
In an interview with News Central, Jaywon discussed the photo, which showed Ayra Starr seemingly preventing him from holding her waist, sparking trolling. He expressed his disappointment that neither Ayra Starr nor her management intervened to address the situation, allowing the mocking to continue.
Reflecting on his intentions, Jaywon clarified that he only aimed to support Ayra Starr as a fellow Nigerian artist excelling in the industry. “The Ayra Starr situation is unfortunate. We are not cool. People don’t get it. What would make me, Jaywon, want to take a picture with Ayra Starr?” he said.
He continued, “Of course, she’s an amazing artist who has been making us [Nigerians] proud. So, it’s just love. I only wanted to support and celebrate her for the good work she’s doing. People also support and celebrate me too. So when I see a young artist doing well, I want to be part of that celebration.”
Jaywon further expressed frustration over how the picture went viral, with Ayra Starr’s management repeatedly promoting it without any comment from her. “We know how the [music] industry works. People are saying she didn’t say anything about the picture. Of course, she didn’t, but she saw it trending every day. Why wouldn’t she say something about it?” he questioned.
He added, “Because that is how they roll. I don’t blame them. They feel like if they say something, they are going to stop the picture from trending. They enjoy it. No problem. Everybody has their time.”
