ChatGPT Subscription Prices May Rise Before Year’s End

The OpenAI chatbot ChatGPT is apparently going to cost more for paying customers. According to a fresh rumour, the AI business would raise ChatGPT Plus membership prices by $2 (Rs. 167) a month. The corporation is projected to raise the monthly membership rate to $44 (Rs. 3,685) in five years. OpenAI wants a higher ticket price because of its revenue goals and significant operating costs.

Prices for ChatGPT subscriptions to rise

The New York Times reports that the AI business would raise membership prices by $2 by 2024. The journal said that financial papers showed the ChatGPT Plus membership may cost $44 a month by 2029, up from $20 in the US or Rs. 1,950 in India.

With the price raise, the business hopes to earn $100 billion (Rs. 8.3 lakh crore) in 2029, mostly from subscriptions. If the AI business meets this goal, it will earn like Reliance Industries, Nestlé, or Comcast. The paper estimates 10 million ChatGPT Plus users for OpenAI.

The investor-focused journal said that OpenAI is generating “billions” from ChatGPT and plans to increase its revenue in the future years. Currently, the firm is closing a fundraising round.

Despite its high sales estimates, the firm is striving to optimise operating expenses. Most of OpenAI’s $5 billion (Rs. 41.8 thousand crore) loss this year goes to its AI-powered services. Office rent and personnel pay are also major cost centres.

The corporation employs Microsoft’s cloud computing services, another huge expenditure. Despite receiving $13 billion (Rs. 1.08 lakh crore) annually from the agreement, the AI business spends most of it on cloud processing.
