Ahmed Musa Suggests NPFL Return, Asks Fans to Pick Club
Ahmed Musa, the captain of the Super Eagles, has hinted that he may be returning to the Nigerian Professional Football League following his European escapade.
Musa has been without a club since his contract with Swiss Super League champions Sivasspor was mutually terminated after two irregularly active years.
In the two seasons that he was under contract with the club after joining from Fatih Karagumruk, he played only 28 games and scored a goal, as noted by Transfermarkt.
Musa has hinted that his subsequent endeavour may involve the NPFL, where he has previously been involved in two stints, most recently in 2021, before returning to Europe.
He posted an image on his official X account that featured the insignia of all Nigerian first-division clubs and requested that supporters select the club for which he should play in the future.
In 2009, the former captain of the Super Eagles transitioned to Kano Pillars after beginning his career in the Nigerian division with Jos University Teaching Hospital.
Here’s the sentence broken into shorter sentences:
He played for Pillars for a single season. He scored 18 goals to secure the Golden Boot in the 2009/10 season. His performance helped the club finish as runners-up to champions Enyimba.
In 2010, the 31-year-old commenced his European journey by joining Dutch Eredivisie club VVV Venlo from Kano Pillars. He remained with the club until 2012.
He has represented CSKA Moscow in Russia, Leicester City in England, and Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia. Additionally, he has performed in Switzerland and Turkey.
In 2021, he played eight games for the Kano Pillars. He left Al-Nassr to prepare for AFCON 2021, where Nigeria lost in the round of 16.

Despite his absence from the field, the captain took on leadership responsibilities during the tournament. He relinquished the on-pitch captaincy to William Troost-Ekong and Kenneth Omeruo.
