WWDC 2024: iOS 18 to Get FaceID App Lock is set to add Dark Mode to iPhone’s home screen app icons, reports say. Toggling the option may darken app icons. Apple is also anticipated to introduce the next iPhone operating system at WWDC 2024 on Monday, allowing users to lock applications with Face ID. Apple Intelligence-like AI features are also expected in iOS 18.
Dark-mode app icons
MacRumors reports that Dark Mode may be added to the iPhone’s home screen. The 2019 iOS 13 feature adjusts the phone’s color palette system-wide. Apple says it makes the iPhone seem “perfect for low-light environments.”
For now, only folder icons on the home screen are affected by dark mode. However, iOS 18 may apply it for all app icons. However, the article says it may initially be confined to first-party Apple apps. An API for third-party apps to enable Dark Mode is expected later.
App Lock iPhone
An additional iPhone feature, app locking, is expected in iOS 18. It may lock iPhone applications including Mail, Safari, Phone, Notes, Messages, Photos, Phone, and more. These apps may need Face ID for identification, enhancing security.
An app lock option would be better than Apple’s ‘Recently Deleted’ and ‘Hidden’ folders in Photos and some notes. Apps cannot be locked system-wide, although Shortcuts and Screen Time can help.
WWDC 2024: iOS 18 to Get FaceID App Lock:
The report suggests this functionality may work with Touch ID and the iPhone’s password in addition to Face ID. This feature should be in iOS 18’s developer update after WWDC 2024. However, it may only be released in September alongside the iPhone 16 series.
